A Top company - serving Charlottesville, VA

DuraFlex Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex Pro Series gas logs - pilot assembly failures. The Pro Series has a known weak point where the thermocouple connects to the pilot bracket. After five or six years of cycling heat and cold, that small connection loosens, and the pilot won’t stay lit. A homeowner can chase this for weeks replacing batteries and cleaning the sensor. We replace the assembly with OEM parts when warranty applies, or properly matched aftermarket when it doesn’t. Either way, the fix usually takes under an hour.
  • DuraFlex ceramic fiber log sets - thermal cracking along contact seams. DuraFlex’s molded log sets are dense, which looks great in the showroom. But in Charlottesville’s older homes, where fireplaces sit on exterior walls, the heat differential between the back of the firebox and the front of the logs eventually causes hairline cracks along the contact seams. It looks alarming. It’s usually cosmetic. We’ll tell you if the crack is safe to ignore or if a failing log is going to shed debris into your burner pan.
  • DuraFlex vent-free systems - carbon buildup from incomplete combustion. Vent-free DuraFlex units in tight Charlottesville houses, especially those with older windows and little fresh air intake, tend to build carbon on the burner ports faster than the manufacturer’s cleaning schedule suggests. The symptom is a lazy orange flame and occasional gas odor. We clean the burner ports, check the ODS sensor, and tell you if your room really does have enough air turnover for a vent-free unit. Sometimes it doesn’t, and no amount of cleaning fixes that.
  • DuraFlex vented gas logs - spider nests and blocked burner tubes. Charlottesville’s humid summers send spiders into outdoor and indoor fireplace burner tubes. DuraFlex burner tubes are narrow diameter, which makes them efficient but easy to clog. If you light the fireplace in October and get a weak flame on one side, that’s likely a spider or mud dauber blockage. We clear the tubes and tune the air shutters so the flame pattern matches what DuraFlex specified for that log set.
  • DuraFlex chimney liners - creosote glaze in wood-burning installations. Where DuraFlex stainless liners run through old brick flues, the liner does its job by containing combustion gasses. But when a Charlottesville homeowner burns green oak or skips annual cleaning, third-degree creosote can glaze the liner walls. Brushes alone won’t remove glaze. We use a rotary cleaning head that gets the liner clean without scoring it. If the liner has already warped from a chimney fire, that’s a replacement conversation, not a cleaning one.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

Here’s how a typical DuraFlex job runs from the first phone call to the invoice.

  1. 1
You call, and a person answers. Could be Wendell himself. You describe the problem. We give you a straight estimate over the phone when we can, and set a real arrival window.
  2. 2
We arrive, boots covered, tools out, fireplace inspected. Before anything is touched, we confirm the price with you. The number you heard on the phone is the number on the invoice.
  3. 3
Diagnostics first. We open the firebox, check the pilot and burner, and if it’s a liner question, we run the camera. You see the footage and get a plain-English verdict, every time.
  4. 4
Parts decision together. If the part is under DuraFlex warranty, we’ll help you file it. If not, we price OEM against quality aftermarket and tell you the difference in plain terms.
  5. 5
Repair and testing. We make the fix, cycle the fireplace to confirm the pilot holds, the burner lights cleanly, and the smoke or gas vents correctly.
  6. 6
Cleanup and the guarantee. The work area is left cleaner than we found it. Every job is backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing.

What DuraFlex Fireplace Services Cost in Charlottesville

Here are the price ranges we see most often on DuraFlex jobs in and around Charlottesville.

DuraFlex gas fireplace cleaning and inspection: $145-$195, depending on whether it’s vented or vent-free and how many log pieces we handle. Pilot assembly replacement: $180-$260, part included. Burner tube clearing and air shutter adjustment: $95-$140. Complete ceramic log set replacement: $300-$550, depending on the DuraFlex series and whether OEM logs are still available. Chimney liner cleaning with rotary head: $250-$350, with glaze removal on the higher end.

What moves the price is mainly parts availability and how long the unit has been left running in a failing state. A pilot that’s been flickering for two seasons costs more to fix than one caught in the first week. Call (540) 503-3890 and give us the model number from the rating plate. We’ll give you a firm number before we schedule.

Why Charlottesville Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for DuraFlex Work

Wendell Pike has been running a brush and a wrench up Charlottesville chimneys since 1999. He grew up in San Diego, learned the trade at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, and has spent the better part of two decades inside older homes behind the Downtown Mall and out in the county. When a DuraFlex fireplace comes apart, he usually knows what’s wrong before the camera even goes in. And when it does not need doing, he will tell you.

We carry the backup to match: if a DuraFlex unit is beyond worth repairing, we install and service HeatShield and Gelco products too. We don’t sell a brand we don’t believe in, and we don’t push a liner when a cleaning will do. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies to every DuraFlex job, no exceptions. One call brings us back.
